GOP Frontrunners Lose To Biden, Clinton, Sanders In Poll, But Guess Who’s Best?
According to the latest national poll by Quinnipiac University, there are now three Democrats who could beat any of the GOP frontrunners in a general election. But the person with the best numbers probably isn’t who you think it is.
For a long time, Hillary Clinton supporters have insisted that she’s the only one who can win against a Republican. That chatter seems to have died down considerably as the clownishness of the GOP field — especially the GOP frontrunners — has grown, but also as Clinton’s weaknesses have become more glaring.
CLINTON DID NOT POLL BEST AGAINST GOP FRONTRUNNERSClinton did not poll the strongest numbers, among all voters, in a matchup with the three top Republicans. That honor goes to the man who has not declared his candidacy, Joe Biden.
Against the current Republican lead, Donald Trump, Clinton would get 45% of the vote as opposed to his 41%. But Biden would get 48% compared to Trump’s 40%.
When it comes to Jeb Bush, Clinton’s advantage with voters narrows — 42% to 40%. For Biden, on the other hand, the gap remains significant — 45% to 39%.
In a matchup against Marco Rubio, Clinton’s lead shrinks to one point, 44% to 43%. Biden’s advantage also narrows, but not as drastically. He would get 44% of the vote to Rubio’s 41%.
There is an obvious hunger among voters for an alternative to Clinton, when an undeclared candidate polls better numbers than she does in these theoretical contests. She isn’t helped by her declining image. Out of all the potential candidates from both parties, only Clinton (at 51%) and Trump (at 54%) are seen unfavorably by a majority of all registered voters.
ARE PERCEPTIONS OF CLINTON AND GOP FRONTRUNNERS EQUALLY BAD?The top two words that come to voters’ minds when they think of Clinton are “liar” and “dishonest.” The top two that come to mind at the thought of Trump are “arrogant” and “blowhard.” If people had to pick a pair of descriptive words for their president, how would “liar” and “dishonest” stack up against “arrogant” and “blowhard”?
The results for declared candidate, Bernie Sanders, also put the lie to the statement that ‘only’ Hillary can win. He, too, polled ahead of each of the GOP frontrunners among registered voters. Against Trump, he polled 44% to 41%. The matchup against Bush gave Sanders 43% to 39%. Rubio again proved the toughest competition. Sanders got 41% to Rubio’s 40%. |
