followup: I used Nirsoft's product ID viewer to prove to myself that
there is indeed an activation key still available on an updated W10
PC (I had confused the ABCDE-etc-etc-etc-etc code with the product
ID that is much easier to find).

Anyway, the tool is handy and although I was a little nervous about
extracting keys with strange software, I do see Nirsoft mentioned
before on this thread.
