9/4/15 Contest update
When life was simpler, “Risk: “The Game of Global Domination” was a popular pastime, played on a Seinfeld episode, and it was cool to throw a “Risk” party. Today, those who wish to rule the world are playing “Risk Parity” and the losers, hedge fund managers and yours truly, are complaining (credit Biomaven for link):

Meanwhile, biotechs had a tough week. At Friday’s close the Contest median was up 19.33% YTD (vs. up 24.08% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 11.26% YTD (vs. up 16.27% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index was up 17.58% YTD (vs. up 22.92% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was down -1.10% YTD (vs. up 1.95% YTD a week ago).
First place, DANIEL’S portfolio, up 89.32% YTD, bucked the down market and widened its lead. MOPGCW’s portfolio, up 72.65% YTD, and GUERL’s portfolio, up 56.31% YTD, held on to second and third place. But watch out below, RKRW’s portfolio has now moved into the Top Ten!
At the week’s close, 42 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with 34 beating the NBI and 27 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 13.25% and a much reduced median YTD gain of .55%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the week’s Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks. (Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: Thankfully, none.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for buyouts & splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a restful Labor Day weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
