If the issue was their race then assimilation wouldn't matter so much would it?

You could argue it rates cultures as better or worse but that isn't race. But he didn't actually say that.

Beyond that if 300 million other people are in the mainstream culture and you segregate yourself outside of it to some extent, there is a good chance you will make things more difficult for yourself even without any issue of less successful cultural ideas.

As for "we're in charge now, do what we say" you must be rather ignorant of Rand if you think that's his message.
