We were a contender, once upon a time.
Now we're the undefeated heavy throw weight champion of the world. Leading contender is prolly the EU, but they are coming to us to see pictures of Pluto, and Voyager plays Johnny B Goode to the galaxy, not God Save the Queen. Still need the Russians to get to our space station, and Europe gets data once in a great while from a comet. They give us one picture, and we give them 1000 galaxies from Hubble.
