Speaking of crazy: Elon Musk wants to nuke the Martian ice caps, in order to release CO2 and warm the place up.

You would think this guy of all people would understand without a magnetic field due to a solid inner core - anything released into the atmosphere would be blown off into space by solar winds.

All the Mars terraforming talk seems to skip over this rather critical bit of reality.
