That was some article by Frum. Actually, there could be a split in both parties. The only way to really give voice to the splinters that are appearing is to change our electoral system from a winner-take-all system to a proportional system. That would allow minority parties to get representation once they crossed the specified theshold of voters. I realize people look at Italy (political chaos) and Israel (too much power given to minority parties) as the two terrible examples of what can happen with proportional parliamentary systems, but those are the exceptions, not the rule. It can be structured differently.

Of course getting agreement on how to structure it will be, ahem, difficult.
