There is so much wrong with the idea. Not the least of which is, it won't actually solve the problem.

What they really don't get, though, is that when you tax something you get less of it. Which includes working. Of course, they have no trouble with the concept if you tax cigarettes you get less smoking. Or gasoline, people use less of it. Those they understand.
