You may not think you need a fire extinguisher in your house, but if you had a fire in your house maybe started from a grease fire in your kitchen which runs out of control you would be very glad you have a fire extinguisher... the same with guns, or any weapon... the same with catastrophic health insurance, the same with car insurance, and so on...

We had a sailboat for many years and we sailed it off shore to the Caribbean islands and to the Eleuthera islands very often, we were at sea for weeks at a time... we had all kinds of FM radio transmitters, we had all kinds of EPERB distress radio beacons, we had wire cutters to cut the stays from the deck to dislodge the mast in case we lost the mast in a storm, we were very well stocked up with all kinds of safety and survival equipment... not that we ever used any of it, and thank goodness we never needed any of it, but not to have it available would have been beyond absolute and complete stupidity...

There are lots of things in life you hope never to use, but not having them available for backup and support should the gravest extreme present itself is not wise and can make the difference between survival and certain death...
