The $50 rebate is off a Macintosh product that typically sells for $80 - $100 more than its PC/Windows counterpart. GV is still making good profit margins on their Mac products, and this smells more than anything like some combination of: (1) clear the shelves of the old product in time for the new standard next month, and (2) pump up the sales revenue even more before the end of the current quarter. My guess is still that they are going to have a surprisingly good quarter revenue-wise. And since the price cuts have come at the very tail end of the quarter, profits probably have a good chance at following suit and giving us a pleasant surprise.
