Winterkorn only had a couple of weeks left on his contract, but Süddeutsche Zeitung suggests someone at the Piëch residence has been working hard to see this contract not renewed, which they predicted in this article from before yesterday's "Supervisory Meeting" what we would call the Executive Committee of the Board. -

"Everyone there knows, that Piëch now is not sitting in his house breeding roses."

"Es weiß doch jeder, dass Piëch jetzt nicht zu Hause sitzt und Rosen züchtet" - sueddeutsche.de - At Volkswagen anything is possible

Die Welt has a good review of the emissions trade-offs when using diesel "Is this finally the end for diesel as a car fuel?" - welt.de

The only idle comment in the article asks whether VW minimized urea use to limit refills only to periodic service visits, after previously correctly noting the low engine temperature in VW diesels limit this option, requiring greater reliance on the EGR and metallic zeolite adsorbers. In the German "Zeolith-Adsorptionsmittel" are referred to as "Stickoxid-Speicherkatalysator" a storage catalyst which not quite right as it's not a catalyst.

This is important for German consumers as Die Welt notes 70 to 80% of autos in Germnay are diesel.
