| |   | 9/25/15 Contest update Jumping out from the voluminous barrage of emails I get daily, this caught my eye: “Republican presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson said in a 2011 speech that he thought scientist Charles Darwin was ‘encouraged by the adversary,’ using another word for Satan, when he came up with the theory of evolution.” Here’s the link: talkingpointsmemo.com Carson’s intriguing surmise prompted me to wonder whether Martin Shkreli was “encouraged by the adversary,” to raise Daraprim’s price from $13.50 to $750. Biotech investors might well have come to such conclusion, as they watched their portfolios pilloried with biblical vengeance in retribution for the sins of Shkreli. At Friday’s close the Contest median was up a mere 8.95% YTD (vs. up 30.51% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 2.16% YTD (vs. up 17.47% YTD a week ago), while the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index was up 8.67% YTD (vs. up 27.98% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was down -1.05% YTD (vs. up 1.93% YTD a week ago). Although significantly humbled this week, DANIEL’S portfolio, up 69.50% YTD, held on to first place. MOPGCW’s portfolio, up 65.50% YTD remained in second place while DONS’ portfolio, up 49.88% YTD, moved to third place. When the week’s biotech break down ended at the closing bell, 37 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the green with 37 also beating the NBI and 26 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD gain of just 5.88% and a median YTD loss of -6.94%. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the week’s Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks. (Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: None (All corrections, especially adjustments for buyouts & splits, greatly appreciated.) Have a relaxing weekend biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
