It makes a big difference. You can't make any statements about the temperature of the deep oceans as a whole if you aren't taking representative readings of the entirety of the world's oceans.

That subs are constantly moving is another problem, thank you for mentioning that. Temperature readings from a sub patrolling the North Atlantic at various depths would be like taking the temperature of eastern North America by having a moving van take daily temperature readings. The van might be traveling from south Florida to Atlanta, to Ashville NC, to Washington DC, to Lake Placid NY, to Portland ME. What would that database of those readings show about north American surface temperatures?
