Thanks for bringing that to the forefront again. Haven't made that in ages. I have an ancient waffle iron that's hinged, has two reversible plates, good for waffles, pancakes or panini, no matter how thick the bread. There's a fourth use for it but I can't remember what it is, it's been so long since I've used it.

For my small kitchen, all appliances except for the coffee maker and the Foodsaver must have more than one purpose.

I think I'll dust it off, clean it up and buy some rye bread, sauerkraut, swiss cheese and corned beef when I go shopping this week and make something different. Tired of the same-old, same-old.

P.S. Back in the day when I was actually using the waffle iron for sandwiches a friend of mine thought it was a ridiculous waste and told me that he uses a regular cast iron pan with another heated cast iron pan for the top weight. Go figure.
