One of my good friends, a far left kind of guy, has been confronted by me many times about the transfer of costs to future generations. His standard reply is, "I guess you'll be refusing Medicare when you become eligible then, right?"

I think he does realize the transfer of costs is happening. OTOH, I often encounter people like my cousin, who has absolutely no concept of cost as it pertains to Medicare or any other government program.

For the most part I think the particular situation about Medicare and other programs is borne more of ignorance than a lack of concern. I do believe most people don't really want to leave future generations in a mess. After all, this is the basis for environmentalism. But borrowed money is pretty intangible if your name isn't on the debt.

BTW, appreciate the article. I thought the new rules for the news writers were not that big of a deal, but the article brings some perspective to the issue. I don't know whether I'm a skeptic or a denier. I think I was a skeptic until I started reading some of the papers on the subject lol.
