Ugh .............................................

While back I posted that there was an Arthritis center located
in Missouri that was the Control Center for 7 Regional Sites
located in 7 Central states.

I sent an EMail asking if they used Synvisc.

Below is there reply.

Hi John,

I am not sure if any of the regional arthritis centers
are using Syvvisc for treatment of OA. We have not
started doing so here at the Central MO Regional
Arthritis Center in Columbia.

Treatment with such a product requires a
series of five (or so) consecutive weekly shots.
Each shot costs over $100.
Shots have to be repeated every couple of years.

Some rheumatologists are excited about this treatment.
Others feel that the success rate isn't high enough.
We don't really see enough people w/ OA to offer it as a procedure here at this time.

Best wishes.

I was wondering if any of the Regional Centers have any
experience with a new treatment for O/A.

It is a product called SYNVISC which was approved by the
FDA in August. It is my understanding that it has been
used successfully in Canada for a couple of years with
a success rate somewhere between 70-85%.

Not sure of the real facts though.
