Robert,Scotsman,Kal, RE:big trouble. Hope you didn't take it seriously.
I've been having fun with the MSFT remark:"Not operable with the IE remove...blah...".
It is bad/sad that MSFT have said something like that. Now, the intention of MSFT is CLEAR, nothing will work unless MSFT thinks it is OK and they will use the monopolistic power to enforce that.
This is a very scary scenario for the user. While the OS (win9x) seems cheap by itself. Actually, MSFT makes a lot more money after user is hooked. Since there is no alternatives, people just have to pay for the key to their own bank account and hand it to MSFT. The totol cost of wintel is very deep. But there was no alternative and UNIX is not competitive at all.
MSFT is in a dream business, normally, MSFT should pay people to have the key to their bank account by offering the win9x free. Instead, due to monopoly, it achieved the unbelievable: "pay me to take money from you whenever I want(ie: constant, needed software upgrade)".
MSFT is so eager to protect the turf from NSCP, it simply goes for any tactic and challenge the government. It is a very bold and maybe correct move. At least, it stops NSCP momentum, (the value cannot be easily determined).
It is sad to need DOJ to oversee this. But the IMPLICATION is very big, if MSFT win, then ANYTHING can be integrated and you know what.
MSFT is testing the water with this. If this tactive is not stopped now by DOJ, buy MSFT and dump eveything else.
Even if MSFT is stopped, buying MSFT is a good investment due to its HUGE business base and the cheap and powerful PC.
MSFT will either buy you (the try of intuit) or stop your progress (the case in Java).
In the spirit of 'free enterprise', we don't want government involved.
But I don't see the 'FREE SPIRIT' in MSFT. |
