LANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--December 22, 1997--Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced a sweeping agreement with the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command (AMC), through Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), that will standardize network enterprise management across the entire command. The licensing agreement includes the worldwide use of CA's Unicenter TNG.

AMC will utilize Unicenter TNG to manage all IT resources of AMC Command and Control Information Processing Systems (AMC C2IPS) - a worldwide network of computer sites for which CSC is prime contractor. The network is used by AMC to plan, monitor, and control airlift and tanker aircraft operations.

"The effective monitoring and management of critical military systems demands a finely tuned combination of expertise and technology," said Milton E. Cooper, president, CSC's Systems Group. "Unicenter TNG is a vital element of the total solution CSC is providing to ensure that the AMC can fulfill its global mission responsibilities."

AMC's mission is to provide airlift, air refueling, special air mission, and aeromedical evacuation for U.S. forces. AMC also supplies forces to theater commands to support wartime tasking. As the Air Force component of the United States Transportation Command, AMC is the single manager for air mobility.

Central to AMC's mission is to provide total In-Transit Visibility (ITV) of all its aircraft, cargoes, and passengers, worldwide. ITV is a strategic initiative by AMC to monitor the whereabouts of any of its aircraft, any of its cargo -right down to the nuts and bolts- and any of its passengers at any time. Thus, a user of the AMC's Global Decision Support System can know in real-time where a tanker aircraft is located, for example, and determine its proximity for in-flight refueling of another aircraft.

To increase the reliability and availability of the systems supporting ITV, AMC has established the Network Control Center (NCC), headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, in Illinois. Just as AMC is targeting In-Transit Visibility of all its aircraft, packages and passengers, the goal of the NCC is to provide real-time visibility of all the AMC programs that make up the network. Unicenter TNG will give that real-time visibility, along with the functionality that increases the reliability and availability of all the hardware and software components comprising the NCC systems.

The AMC NCC network is extensive, constituting a diversity of hardware platforms, operating systems and databases running on nearly 600 servers and supporting 60,000 PCs around the world. And the system is growing. One reason AMC went with Unicenter TNG was its ability to manage many diverse computing platforms. Its scalability and policy-based security capability was also a consideration.

The AMC NCC will use Unicenter TNG to manage the entire AMC system, network and programs. Eighteen programs comprise the system, including the Global Division Support System (GDSS), the Office Information System (OIS), the Cargo and Passenger Tracking System (CAPS II), the Command and Control Information Processing System (C2IPS), and a new system called the Global Air Transportation Execution System (GATES), that is designed to consolidate selected information from all the other programs.

Unicenter TNG will be monitoring everything owned by AMC. That includes the Tandem-based communication gateway, Windows NT servers, Sun systems, HP machines, Digital machines, E-mail servers, exchange servers, network routers, Web-based systems, TCP/IP and so forth - total enterprise management.

Along with Unicenter TNG and the Software Delivery option, AMC licensed Unicenter TNG's Single Sign On option to simplify access to multiple management products through the integrated Unicenter TNG management console. Given their extremely large and complex systems and programs, this capability is extremely important in terms of user convenience and productivity. All in all, the AMC NCC's new enterprise management software is expected to give the organization its goal of total In-Transit Visibility of all AMC systems.

Unicenter TNG is an integrated enterprise management solution that enables organizations to manage all IT resources, encompassing heterogeneous networks, systems, applications, and databases. It provides comprehensive end-to-end enterprise management for TCP/IP, SNA, IPX/SPX and DECnet networks, and 40 platforms including desktops, Windows NT, UNIX, AS/400, NetWare and mainframe environments.

Unicenter TNG is the only fully integrated management solution covering network discovery, topology, performance, events and status, security, software distribution, storage, workload, help desk, change management and other functions for traditional and distributed computing environments, as well as for the Internet and intranets. Unicenter TNG's intelligent manager/agent technology delivers highly scalable management of the entire computing environment, including hardware and software.
