Iraq was a neocon pet project... They thought that if they forced democracy on Iraq through invasion and occupation, it would be embraced by all the ME. Stupid, stupid, stupid... Funny how you point at Saddam and support the disastrous military deposal there, presumably because it was Cheney's action, but support another bloody dictator, Assad, because he's being propped up by Putin and apparently embarrassing Obama. Any military action, no matter how misdirected or wrong is good to you.
