It was an upper-level low fueled by the jet stream. It's a -5 standard deviation cold-core low you dumb shit. Check out plot below. This happens as the atmosphere is cooling. It's not warming any more Kenny; we're heading towards winter in the Northern Hemisphere. This event is a result of rapid cooling.

Same thing in Southern France. It's all related to the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillaton pattern; the cooling in the Atlantic I've been speaking about for months. These southern tracking lows are classic example. Another one will hit Texas in the next 5 days (in Southern Cal in map below). Blurting out that it's from warming is moronic.
