And that's called "private transfer" and is not illegal.

All registered FFL dealers must do a background check - it's the law.

Individual citizens are not required (in most states) to run a check. That said many gun shows also require all transfers to have a background check - it's a trend to keep ahead of the lawyers.

Since you want background checks - do you think the government should pay the $25 transfer fees most dealers charge to run the paperwork?
