does anyone here have a clue as to what conditions, if any, would result in one having to pay SS Taxes on trading income ?

i've been contemplating the possibility of strictly deriving my income from investment/trading activities

i've gotten differing answers from "traders" as relates to the paying of SS Taxes on cap gains - it seems that some pay SS Taxes and others don't

it also appears that those who pay SS Taxes also file a Schedule C

my intention would be to forego the writeoffs and just use Schedule D for reporting trading activities as per the usual procedure

so the question remains - does one or does one not have to pay SS Taxes on cap gains if one's sole source of income is derived from the trading of stocks ?

thanks to any who have further insights
