When a person is harassed or mistreated in anyway on the job there are provisions in place that hold the person accountable for the offense. When there aren't or when there are but they are not adequately utilized, the manager or the employer is also held accountable. The media and society at large has been very active in promoting the message, which has resulted in a much safer work environment, especially for women. This change was several decades in the making...not perfect but nothing ever is.

Changing gun laws, except maybe those that allow more protective services, would do little to effect a change in the safety of people at schools or public gathering places. Holding institutions accountable would make a change. We should tell our local schools to allow a carry permit for education staff, at least for those ex-military/police or other qualified individuals. If they refuse, the administration will be held accountable for not taking reasonable steps to provide a safe environment for children. The first time we see an administrator sued for blocking efforts to provide a safe environment will be the point in time when this begins to change.

When they have to start worrying about themselves, THEN they will start paying attention....
