NEWS RELEASE TRANSMITTED BY CANADIAN CORPORATE NEWS FOR: PACIFIC WILDCAT RESOURCES CORP. VSE SYMBOL: PAW SEPTEMBER 24, 1996 Pacific Wildcat - Sulut Deep Drilling Completed and Jambi Work Program Underway VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Mr. Ross Fitzpatrick, Chairman of Pacific Wildcat Resources Corp. ("Pacific Wildcat"), announces that the first stage of deep drilling on the Sulut Project in Sulawesi has been completed and as well, field work at the Jambi Project in Sumatra has been accelerated. SULUT - DEEP DRILLING COMPLETED To the end of August 1996, 18 deep holes had been drilled totalling 4,798 metres; 5 of the holes tested the Doup South prospect and the balance, the Benteng prospect. Drill results from the Benteng prospect continue to provide new information on the geology and geometry of the mineralization and the core assay grades are encouraging. A summary of the recent Benteng deep drill results received are as follows: /T/ Selected Drill Results - Sulut Hole Depth Interval Grade Number (M)(1) (M)(1) (G/T Au)(1) BDL-117 141-143 2 3.43 219-225 6 3.86 261-281 20 4.81 BDL-118 78-134 56 1.56 (including) (118-130 12 3.35) 144-193 49 1.76 227-237 10 2.07 BDL-119 22- 28 6 8.65 70- 72 2 14.40 128-137 9 5.18 151-164 13 3.04 BDL-121 33- 45 12 3.84 63- 77 14 3.37 85- 87 2 2.29 BDL-122 229-243 14 1.26 259-303 44 1.65 325-347 22 1.26 BDL-126 151-191 40 7.95 (including) (157-159 2 46.5) (171-173 2 75.5) (1) Conversions: 1 gram per tonne (G/T) = 0.0282 ounces per ton. 1 metre (M) = 3.281 feet. /T/ The Benteng prospect is located on the contact between sediments and an intrusive dioritic/andesitic porphyry which is interpreted to form part of the same intrusive complex hosting the Doup prospect mineralization. Benteng gold mineralization is composed near surface of two or more narrow, distinct lodes which diverge up dip and along strike to the west and coalesce and widen at depth and along strike to the east. In addition to the deep drill program at Doup South and Benteng, Pacific Wildcat is continuing to test four prospects - Doup, Benteng, Parabo and Tungau - with a shallow drill program. To the end of August, 76 shallow holes (maximum depth 80 metres) had been drilled for a total of 5,180 metres. The shallow drill program has a two- fold objective: to complement data from both the deep drill program and data from previous drilling, and to provide initial data on new targets. Assays are pending. Preliminary metallurgical test work of Benteng drill core indicates variable metallurgy. As with earlier work on Doup drill core, it appears that most of the mineralization so far delineated is refractory in nature. Once final deep drilling results from Benteng are received, a compilation report summarizing and interpreting all work to date on the Project will be prepared. The Company's Directors expect to receive this report by late October or early November. JAMBI - WORK PROGRAM UNDERWAY Work at the Jambi Project in Sumatra has been accelerated by contracting two helicopters: one to transport personnel and supplies; the other to conduct a geophysical survey over the steep, mountainous terrain. The initial work program which will consist of mapping, trenching and sampling known gold prospects is in progress and shallow diamond drilling is scheduled to begin in three weeks. We expect this initial work program to be completed in six months. ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Brian Flower, Treasurer and Director |
