HOW TO CREATE A WEBPAGE
1. Download Netscape 4.0 from Netscape Communications
Make sure to download Page Composer.
2. Start Netscape. From the Communicator menu, select Page Composer
3. This works like a word processor. Type in your webpage.
4. When you are done, save it as a file on your hard drive. DOn't use funny characters like spaces, &, ^;
Underscore (_), Dash (-), and period (.) are OK.
5. Get an FTP software. I recomend WS_FTP: it comes for free. Goto shareware.com.
6. Upload your webpage onto the server & you have a webpage!
7. Its adress is yourserver.com. For example, my webpage is
aimnet.com
Tip: If you want a file to come up automatically, name it index.html and keep it on the root directory
Tip: Always end your files with html. In dos, save them as .htm and then use the rename command in
WS_FTP to change it.
Some old browsers only see .html files as web pages.
Tip: If you want more info, go to any site, and use Netscape to see the "view source." This ist he HTML
code underlying the webpage.
Tip: If you want to do advanced & cool stuff with your page, you will have to edit the page in a text
editor like vi, pico, simpletext (macs), notepad (windows) or emacs. Put in html tags. |
