Ben Carson gets it.

"Our government has once again maxed out our National Credit Card and now the Beltway crowd is screaming that the only sensible thing to do is borrow more money – this is what I call 'Washington wisdom'. This is like getting a fifth credit card so you can make the minimum payments on the fourth. I was asked the other day if I would vote to raise the debt limit and I said No. Almost immediately, the leftwing media and the CNN pundits started losing their minds. I was called all kind of things but mainly they described how irresponsible I was for saying no more debt.

The funny thing is all their irresponsibility that got us in this mess. Over time, we increase the amount of money our government borrows and it is always accompanied with either a plan to balance the budget, which is promptly ignored after hyped threats about how devastating it is going to be. I argue the devastation has already occurred, it is just now time to pay the piper. The portion of the budget to service our existing debt is near $300 Billion each year. Our total budget is well over $3 Trillion. I heard some folks that I even admire, say outrageous things like ‘if the debt ceiling isn’t raised, we will default on our debt’. That is absurd Washington spin.

The one thing Washington cannot do is to continue spending money we don’t have so the political class can all get re-elected. This has to stop. I think voting to raise the debt ceiling without the iron clad plan to balance the budget is dereliction of duty. If you can’t do your job then leave your post and allow someone to make the very hard choices that you won’t. This political charade game has got to stop. It will take a milestone like increasing the debt to bring this drunken spending binge to an end. I think it is time to stop and the political class underestimates the will of the citizens of this country to get it done." - BEN CARSON
