It is really common sense that someone on a school campus would have a firearm so that the facility isn't 100% defenseless. True, if someone comes in with an AR15 it might be a long shot but it is something.

An important point, one made by Carson, is the idea of training. A lot of times a well-armed, wild-eyed nutjob can be brought down with a well-trained person's handgun. Knowing how to use a firearm is important. I feel very weak because I've never had formal training and intend to go and get it before we move. My wife, OTOH, was trained extensively so if necessary I'll give the damned gun to her ;) Training matters, IMO.

There ought to be persons trained to handle the gun(s) that are on premisis.
