Dr. Michael Lebby Shares His Vision of the Future of Integrated Photonics at Industry Conferences

Polymer Photonics to Challenge Incumbent Indium Phosphide

Integrated Photonics Will Open The 100 Gbs/s Market And Beyond

LONGMONT, Colo., Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Lightwave Logic, Inc. (OTCQB: LWLG), a technology company focused on the development of Next Generation Photonic Devices and Non-Linear Optical Polymer Materials Systems for applications in high speed fiber-optic data communications and optical computing, announced today that Dr. Michael Lebby, one of the foremost opinion leaders in the photonics industry and board member of the Company addressed industry executives both at the PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit) conference in Eindhoven, South of the Netherlands on September 23, 2015, and the data center symposium at ECOC organized by Phoxtrot – the European funded consortium on data centers in Valencia, Spain on September 29, 2015.

During his presentations Dr. Lebby coined the term Integrated Photonics to describe what he saw as an unprecedented move to the miniaturization of photonics functions on a single chip and drew an analogy to the development of Integrated Circuits for computers.

Also during the presentation, he discussed Polymer Photonics and Silicon Photonics as competitive forces that could challenge Indium Phosphide—widely regarded as the incumbent technology.

Dr. Lebby stated, "Lightwave Logic is in the vanguard of polymer photonics. Its multi-chromophore process has already developed promising materials that offer the scalability and performance necessary to challenge Indium Phosphide, especially for high volume datacenter market opportunities. Polymers also have inherent advantages when compared to Silicon Photonics."

Tom Zelibor, Chairman and CEO of Lightwave Logic commented, "It's great to gain exposure to the worldwide industry that is now beginning to take notice of our scientific achievements to date. We have developed a family of advanced polymer materials designed to surpass the performance requirements of the telecom and datacom industries. We have been making steady progress towards commercialization.

"Lightwave Logic's device program is moving forward on major initiatives. Our telecom modulator prototype will soon be ready for passive testing, while other testing has begun on several of our silicon photonic structures to be incorporated into our future datacom devices.

"After demonstrating consistent results we anticipate that a growing number of industry players will become interested in the power of polymers. Thermal aging tests have demonstrated that our polymer materials can withstand operating temperatures of 110C for over 2,000 hours, and we have now further demonstrated photochemical stability in excess of 1,000 hours with the goal of exceeding 2,000 hours.

"Investors and business development partners will soon grasp the tremendous opportunity that awaits our Company to provide a powerful alternative to incumbent technologies that is both cost effective and scalable, while it also offers a platform that can be continuously optimized to not only meet present industry needs but also the future industry demands as well."
