Denotative statements must be read with the greatest care. Pamtothenic acid is NOT pantethine. Pantethine as the post says is a METABOLITE OF PANTOTHENIC ACID. Big difference. Pantothenic acid is RATE LIMITED, so cannot reduce LDL beyond a certain point. Pantethine, which is the rate-limited-in-the-body PRODUCT of pantothenic acid, can. So we take the metabolite in capsule form and reduce our LDL and INCREASE our HDL --- just like niacin, although not quite as effective at increasing HDL.

What is really needed is something to increase Glutathione, change the nature of LDL and increase HDL.

The single biggest correlation with heart attacks is not high cholesterol, but low glutathione or low anti oxidant levels.

These things seem to correlate with less Heart Disease.

1. Increasing HDL

2. Reducing caloric intake.

3. Reducing intake of saturate fats and replacing them with non hydrogenated mono and poly unsaturated diets.

4. Regular moderate exercise.

5. Low overall salt consumption. This is a recent statistic but borne out by epidemiology of the Japanese Islands who are seen to have diametrically opposed diets with regard to salt in certain areas, with corresponding diametrically opposite statistics regarding mortality.

6. Increase in the consumption of sea food. (Ancel Keys, Seven Country Studies), Eskimo. The eskimo seem to find a therapeutic effect in consuming the high fat whale blubber called muk tuk, raw. It is high in vitamin E, Vitamin C and also has some vitamin D. It should also be noted that the wild harvest of where most Eskimo lived has many types of forage which are high in antioxidants, Teas, mushrooms, berries, birds etc...

7. Increase in the consumption of antioxidants in fruit and vegetables. sulfure fich foods such as garlic and onions contain the "food" for the intercellular synthesis of glutathione, a vital antioxidant.

8 Good community ties via religion, or cultural practices, Seventh day Adventists, Okinawa.

9. Taking cholesterol lowering medications

10. Eating lots of leafy green vegetables --brassicae, etc, Fiji, Nigeria, et al ditto for Cancers.

For stroke one thing seems to correlate highly eating diets high in Selenium. Of the civilized countries, Canadians suffer the fewest strokes. Our wheat has 50 times more Selenium than European wheat. Mediterranean people consume a lot of Tuna and shellfish, which is high in Selenium.
