There are only two sure ways of solving international disputes, diplomacy and genocide. The allies won WWII because it was clear that we were prepared to kill every last Japanese to end the War. Since genocide is outlawed, all we have left is diplomacy, and that is not something we are good at. War without genocide is by definition endless. We should not be in that part of the world at all.
