I don't get the "singularity" that kurzweil talks about... got quick explanation?

I am not up to speed on Kurzweil. It appears from a quick reading that he is writing about people becoming so interconnected that we all become part of a singular organism or intelligence. Maybe like the Borg from Star Trek.

I was using singularity to refer to the point in time in which all uncertainty becomes crushed down to a single point we call "now".
