No. I will defend myself if necessary. If he is a danger to society what the hell is he doing OUT of the mental institution? Would you deny other fundamental, Constitutional rights to him for being sick, or only the Second Amendment rights? Who decides whether a particular illness warrants banning gun rights and for how long?

I don't trust government to perform that function. I have known severely mentally ill people who opened guns all their lives and never killed anyone.

I think your post exemplifies the problem. A dangerous person is dangerous with or without the right to buy a gun. The idea that he would be turned on the street with a mere prohibition on gun ownership is pretty stupid, do you not agree?
