WHAT A CLOWN SHOW
Benghazi Chair Accuses Hillary Leaking CIA Source, Then ‘Accidentally’ Leaks Same CIA Source October 20, 2015Elisabeth Parker Politics Republish Reprint
BRING OUT THE DIAPERS… EVEN THE BENGHAZI INVESTIGATION’S LEAKS HAVE LEAKS.
Didn’t think the GOP’s bogus Benghazi investigation could get any more sick and twisted? Sorry, you’re about to be proven wrong. Buried deep within the heaping helping of ethics violations so-called “investigators” have served the American people, writhes an ethics violation wrapped up in yet another ethics violation. Rep. Trey Gowdy, the overzealous Benghazi investigation chair, has already admitted on national TV that his three-ring media circus exists only as a taxpayer-funded smear campaign against Hillary Clinton. But even as House Democrats prevent him with ample evidence of misconduct, Gowdy refuses to “stand down” and keeps doubling down instead.
Alas, too much doubling down turns you into a pretzel. As the Benghazi investigation’s “evidence” against Hillary Clinton falls apart, Gowdy’s left grasping at wispy, floating straws. In his latest epic fail, our hero wrote a letter to his Democratic colleagues “proving” Hillary Clinton had sent classified information through her email server. Attached was an email that revealed the name of a key CIA asset in Libya, which clearly should have been “classified.” Yahoo! News reports:
At the time, Gowdy said, an email sent to Clinton on March 18, 2011, by her longtime friend and adviser Sidney Blumenthal contained the “name of a human source” for the CIA and was therefore “some of the most protected information in our intelligence community.” In his Oct. 7 letter to Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the highest ranking Democrat with the misfortune of serving on the Benghazi Investigation committee, Gowdy wrote:
“Armed with that information, Secretary Clinton forwarded the email to a colleague — debunking her claim that she never sent any classified information from her private email address.” There’s just one problem with this supposed “smoking gun” email for Gowdy’s bogus Benghazi investigation…Oh wait, two problems.
First of all, the CIA insists the information was not classified at all. The source, a Libyan ex-Foreign Minister named Moussa Koussa, had already made news headlines long before Clinton sent that email, when he escaped and defected to the U.K. Second of all, Gowdy himself forgot to remove the name of this supposedly top-secret spy when he sent that letter claiming Hillary had endangered Koussa by coping him on a “classified email.” And then he released the letter to the public! Seriously, you can’t make this up. Here’s a screen shot with the copied email our intrepid ¡BENGHAZI! investigator sent, with Koussa’s name in the subject line.
Benghazi Investigation Chair Trey Gowdy 'accidentally' outs 'classified' CIA source. So which is it, Gowdy? Do you care about protecting “classified information” or not? And if you’re that careless, what business do you have hounding Hillary Clinton for doing the same thing George W. Bush’s secretary of state did? That’s right. Colin Powell went on record and told Politico that he, too, used a private email account. So what does Gowdy do? He has a GOP spokesman blame it all on the State Department for not redacting the name that didn’t need to be redacted, though the State Department would have preferred to respect Koussa’s privacy.
In any case, calling out Hillary Clinton for (supposedly) revealing a top secret CIA asset’s name in public seems an awful lot like the pot calling the kettle black. After all — as Valerie Plame Wilson knows all-too-well — it’s the Republicans who’ve proven all-too-willing to commit treason and expose our intelligence agents’ identities, not the Democrats. __________________ |
