Judge's Ruling of 12/11/97 - NO MSFT BROWSER WITHIN ANY FUTURE OS

Press and public focus on disabling IE from Windows 95 misses the point entirely. The temporary injunction temporarily bans MSFT from integrating IE into any future MSFT OS. The fight is not at all about Windows 95, but any future OS.

It seems that MSFT is in-contempt for releasing the new 'beta' of Windows 98 with IE integrated.

From the last page of Judge Jackson's order of December 11 .....

"FURTHER ORDERED, sua sponte, that Microsoft Corporation, its officers, agents, servants, employees, attorneys, and all others in active concert or participation with them, are hereby enjoined, and shall cease and desist from and after the date hereof, from the practice of licensing the use of any Microsoft personal computer operating system software (including Windows 95 or any successor version thereof) on the condition, express or implied, that the licensee also license and preinstall any Microsoft Internet browser software (including Internet Explorer 3.0, 4.0, or any successor versions thereof) pending further order of the Court.

/s/ Thomas Penfield Jackson
U.S. District Court"

Am I missing something here? This says that Windows 98 with IE does not have a future (at least for now). That is my "read" between-the-lines anyhow.

Happy holidays to all.
