I have a friend who covered the Beirut bombing for a major newspaper, and he essentially made the same point I think you're making. Although an extremist liberal, he liked Reagan (he would say "respected").

And he was allowing political bias to get in the way as well.

The circumstances are totally different. Reagan did not lie. He just didn't. He didn't send people onto TV to lie. The Beirut bombing happened, he took responsibility and moved on to do what he could do.

What we have now is the Obama administration lied up front when it sent out the wrong person -- a dead giveaway -- to be on five Sunday shows. We had Hillary claiming one thing to her immediate family and claiming something else publicly -- polar opposite stories. Lies.

And we had her committing the most stupid act of administrative incompetence one can envision, by setting up an insecure mail server in order to prevent access by government watchdogs. In the process, giving her email any country who wanted it, except ours.
