<< Cable folks don't seem to price their services according to what they cost
to install >>

I think you are wrong. All the expenses are costs of learning which anyone has to pay for a new business. They already have the cable. Internet service providing is cheap and the more customers you have the less it costs per cusotmer. And the modem installation is a process they have to go thru in the initial phase of learning but eventually they will make sure that the customer can install it. They may also start charging for it. JMHO

Dont be so negative on cable. Hell it would be a tremendous improvement on the 28.8 that I am using right now and at about the same price as28.8. xDSL may be better but I will praise it when I see it. Iam not holding my breath. I will go with whomever provides it first. Then I will switch only if I see a big advantage in Price/Speed relative to MY requirements and not someone else's.
