The annually-averaged temperature was 0.69°C (1.24°F) above the 20th century average of 13.9°C (57.0°F), easily breaking the previous records of 2005 and 2010 by 0.04°C (0.07°F). ncdc.noaa.gov "We are often told that the 17-year pause, with which we are all familiar" never happened. Deniers, however, cling to the myth that it did. "What Santer’s study shows is that there has been no underlying upward trend in global temperatures for more than 20 years." And yet, the temperature is up 0.38 degrees C in 20 years, and this year will be the warmest, by quite a bit.
