As they say over on The Motley Fool, how could we have seen this coming?

My stock club just bought APPB last month. We read the Value Line report, did an SSG, looked at a log of other ratios, read the news items, etc. We didn't catch a whiff of any of this. I'm trying to undersand the gist of what's happened here and what impact it will have upon the stock price. As you say, this isn't good.

When we looked at APPB, their debt-to-equity ratio was something like .20, which suggested they had plenty of leverage available. Off-hand, I don't know what the additional debt will do to their debt/dquity ratio.

I suspect the buy-back program will be used by management to try to keep the share price from REALLY tanking over the next quarter.

Lets see, they plan to borrow $35 mil for stock buybacks, plus another $94 (?) mil for Apple South restaurants. Did I miss any other borrowings?

One of the press releases talked about above-average expenses this quarter due to employees jumping ship in light of the impending action by Apple South. Somebody knew about this in advance..... but not me (sigh).
