Company Press Release WinStar Shares Holiday Spirit Telephone Calls, Toys and Coats Donated NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 23, 1997--WINSTAR COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (NASDAQ-WCII) is joining with local charities to make the holidays warmer for people in communities where the national communications and information services provider has a major presence.
''As we celebrate another year of corporate progress, we're delighted to be sharing our success with residents of the cities where our employees live and work,'' said William J. Rouhana, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WinStar. ''Throughout the year, our employees dedicate themselves to offering the highest level of personal service to our customers. In this festive season, we're extending that human touch to people who can use a helping hand.''
From free telephone calls to coats, toys and cash donations, New York-based WinStar and its employees are spreading holiday cheer in the New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., metropolitan areas.
In its headquarters city, WinStar has distributed a total of 200 long distance calling cards to New York Cares and Graham-Windham, a child-care agency. Each card will make possible a 20-minute call to a friend or loved one during the holiday season. Similarly, in Dallas - home to WinStar's 24-hour Customer Care Center - the company will offer free Christmas Day calls to people living at The Family Place, a shelter for those affected by family violence.
Also, in New York and the Washington area, employees are contributing coats and toys to local residents via nonprofit organizations. For example, more than 250 New York children will receive dolls, model cars, stuffed animals and a host of other playthings from ''Secret Santas,'' while other Big Apple residents will get warm coats. Likewise, D.C.-area employees are supporting a coat drive at the Central Union Mission, a homeless shelter in Washington, as well as a toy and gift collection by the Loudon County (Va.) Community Holiday Coalition.
Another beneficiary of WinStar's holiday spirit is the Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission. WinStar is raising cash donations for the homeless shelter in a campaign with the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
These projects are part of a WinStar tradition of community involvement that is growing along with the company, its national network, and its work force, which currently totals 1,600 people.
