Why lie? (2)
5 Power Line by Scott Johnson

Speaking to a partisan Democratic crowd at a fundraiser in New York on Monday, President Obama mocked the Republican presidential candidates. Disparaging his domestic political opponents is what Obama does best. Not to say he’s great at it, or that he doesn’t have significant accomplishments to point to, but disparagement is his greatest strength.

The GOP candidates seem to have gotten under his thin skin. “Every one of these candidates says, ‘Obama is weak, Putin is kicking sand in his face, when I talk to Putin it is going to straighten him out.'” (CNN has more here.)

Obama founded his criticism on the candidates’ purported inability to deal with the CNBC moderators as he asserted: “And then it turns out they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators on a debate. If you can’t handle those guys, you know, then, I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you.”

Now if you saw the CNBC event, you saw that the candidates had no trouble dealing with the CNBC moderators. Ted Cruz, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio et al. actually put them in their place. It was the most newsworthy element of the event by far. As always when he emits his venom, Obama depends on the ignorance of his intended audience.

Moreover, Obama can’t handle Putin. He can’t handle any formidable adversary of the United States. he doesn’t even much defend himself before a friendly audience. He loves to trash his domestic political opponents.

Obama never tires of reminding us that he is a very small man occupying a very large office.

NOTE: I think David Harsanyi dishes out the criticism the GOP candidates deserve.
