Slow ????

It just now took 49 seconds to load this thread's topic list when there was nothing else running in my machine. I'm directly connected to my router with a timed speed of 179.2Mbps.

Subject 59304

FORTY NINE SECONDS !!!

That's not "slow" response time.

That's darned near non-existent response time.

My banning pal Dmitry would fix this issue, except when he tries to recreate the problem, he forgets what he was doing by the time he gets the results of his test.

Performance problems CAN be fixed.

The over-simplified description: It's not enough to run net diagnostics and get tons of details. You have to *understand* what those timings mean, and how to reduce ... or better yet ... *eliminate* the bottlenecks.

An analysis of the database structure and access protocol could help, too. Again, reducing those bottlenecks ... or completely *eliminating* unnecessary accesses can go a long way toward response time Nirvana.

Case in point: Do we really NEED an hourly refresh of some of those SI statistics? Like, "Most Followed". What good are those timings when the "Last Post" shows "2 hours ago"?

That's just a microcosm of the overall problem. But, every little unnecessary overhead issue compounds other overhead issues, until sooner or later you have .... 49 second response times.

I see from other threads that he's still having problems with AdBlock.

I will be polite and not mention (again) that there is a fix for that problem.

CENSORSHIP SUX !!!

Sure is a pretty day.
