I agree with you--he is a pretty good self-promoter. Even a very good one. Like I said earlier, he slants the story one way and the Politico writer just took his slant and slanted even more that way, then said that he fabricated it. Well, he didn't really fabricate the story exactly, he just embellished it a little, in a way that many people do. The Politico writer's editor (or his/her boss) should take him aside and give him a talking to, because it was sloppy journalism, made worse because it was sloppy about a Presidential candidate.

Actually, Epicure should use the story in each of its incarnations as an exercise for her students in how to read and report on what you've read. It is so easy to distort things. Way way too easy. Of course there are plenty of examples of that that the Republicans give us all the time, like with Benghazi, the IRS, climate change, etc.
