He was a ROTC cadet. He should have known that. In fact, I don't see how he couldn't have, ROTC is one of the funnels to the academies. I have no doubt that he would have been accepted if he went through the process. I also have no doubt that there were people pushing him to do it. So this was an embellishment. And a useless one at that.
