Right Wing Flocks To Carson’s More Insane Campaign, Trump Drops To Number 2
November 7, 2015Jenna LeFever Politics

THERE’S A NEW CRAZY REPUBLICAN FRONT-RUNNER IN TOWN

It’s happening! It’s happening! Donald Trump is now sitting beneath Dr. Ben Carson in national polling averages according to Real Clear Politics for the first time since July. Real Clear Politics takes all official polls conducted and averages the results.

Now, crazy Uncle Ben isn’t ahead by huge leaps and bounds — only two-tenths of a point separate him from Trump and that could quickly change — but single polls have been indicating for weeks that Carson’s support is on the uptick, and now he’s finally overtaken the bloviating pile of hair. It just goes to show that with the right kind of insane and factless statements, overt bigotry and lying, any candidate can take the number one slot. Carson has played his cards exactly right in his campaign, and now he has officially trumped Trump. By comparison, Carson makes Trump look like a reasonable, intelligent man so obviously Carson would be a more palatable candidate for the right wing, because the right wing are attracted to crazy like flies are to shit.

So what could be attracting more support to Carson’s campaign? Could it be his flat tax plan that would inflate the nation’s deficit by tens of trillions of dollars? Could it be his fascinating tales of trying to stab a friend just for changing the radio station, and chasing his mother with a hammer? Could it be that Carson holds a Cosby-like disdain for fellow African-Americans? Oh, oh, I know! It had to be his latest rap video that’s attracting young, black conservatives with a love for Christian rap music that brought on the extra support.

What isn’t hard to see is why right wingers support Carson in the first place. He’s a religious bigot who is outspoken against Muslims and the LGBT community. He’s a Washington D.C. outsider (because most righties don’t actually like their politicians). Carson also strongly disagrees with the “well-regulated” part of the Second Amendment much to the delight of assault weapon owners everywhere, and he repeats debunked talking points about Hitler and gun control, which is a favorite children’s bedtime story in Republican households. Plus, being a doctor with a Ph.D., Carson being unable to understand gravity, evolution and other science-y things means facts are just a matter of opinion. Oh, and the guy hates abortion, thinks women who get them are like slave owners from the pre-Civil War era. And since Carson is an African-American he can compare virtually anything to slavery, like Obamacare, because Republicans don’t need no stinkin’ health care.

But it doesn’t matter if Donald Trump regains his lead over Ben Carson, or if Ben Carson holds the line — both candidates are abysmally awful.

Watching the polls reveals something frighteningly obvious, the crazier a Republican candidate’s campaign gets, the more their poll numbers soar. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the state of the right wing, and we should be very, very afraid.
