Real time to Datek indeed means snapshots. They send you a quote whenever their computers accept a connection from you (sometimes they get too busy, and your connection is refused). In my opinion, that is a misuse of the term real time. What they provide is current quotes on an "as available" basis. The number of free quotes is unlimited (a good feature!) and they are usually accurate (they seem to have trouble with bid/ask prices a times, as they did this morning, so be careful). It's not a perfect world, but I don't know if anyone else does it better on the internet. I know nothing about Bullsession, but I'm interested in exploring true real-time tick by tick services. They tend to be pricey, and I can't seem to find anyplace you can go see them in action to check them out, just lots of ads on CNBC
