11/13/15 Contest update
As I follow coverage of the awful terrorist attacks in Paris, it seems even creepier that it’s Friday the 13th. Maybe my brain is resorting to superstition as a defense mechanism, helping me come to grips with yet another atrocity our species is capable of committing. And now I’ll distract myself with the update.
At Friday’s close the Contest median was up 12.35% YTD (vs. up 16.73% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index, was up 6.54% YTD (vs. up 8.72% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index, was up 10.79% YTD (vs. up 13.80% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.05% YTD (vs. up 8.68% YTD a week ago).
MOPGCW’s portfolio had a losing week but remained in first place with a still impressive 71.63% YTD gain. DONS’ portfolio, up 56.68% YTD and MCBIO’s portfolio, up 50.40% YTD, both also had poor weeks, but held on to second and third place.
At the week’s close, 37 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the green with 32 beating the NBI and 29 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD gain of 4.74% and a median YTD loss of -8.42%.
