Most of Europe seems to think immigration is people bringing their (backward islamic) culture and carving out a section of the city or country for themselves - as opposed to the American idea of becoming part of or adopting the culture - while hopefully enriching the culture.
Melting pot vs. salad bowl? I remember having that discussion one time in high school.

Funny thing is that one of the advocates for the "salad bowl" concept is Tiger Mom herself, Amy Chua.

The Islamist problem would be the biggest challenge to the workability of this "salad bowl."
