Re XCO - preemptively dealing wth debt via exchanges is a strategy that will optimize the value for debt holders, which is pretty much frnehat they are working mow. The equity is pretty much toast ($600M in negative equity and the assets are probably overvalued at current energy prices)

For your debt to work out, you will need a recovery of energy prices, I think. I don't think they are able to raise much equity, since the equity is worthless. The operating losses are staggering and the lack of available cash prevents them from investing much, so this is pretty much an entity in liquidation.
