Apparently his father came over from Cuba in 1957 to attend the University of Texas. Somebody must have had some money for him to do that.

Why would that be unusual? Cuba was once the gem of the Caribbean. There were hard working well to do people.
Besides that tuition at UT in 1957 would have been insignificant compared to today.

Then 13 years later the father owns his own seismic-data processing firm in Canada. Oil industry.

No Obama to stop it. He went north to seek his fortune.

Ted, himself, goes to the finest U.S. Universities and gets a Big government job at the age of 29.

Apparently his parents raised some smart kids. Mom had a degree in math from Rice and one sister is an MD.
