I went to college a long time ago but I can tell you the cost was NOT insignificant to ME.

I'm also sure it was not insignificant to anyone that went to college in 1957.

Back then college was considered something for the affluent. If your family didn't have a lot of money you had to work your tail off to pay for it. I worked every summer and during the school year every year.

I had to drop out for a semester and work in a steel mill to pay for my last year.

You have NO IDEA what things were like back then.
